Is your pet in pain?

Your pet depends on you as its primary caregiver. It's easy to tell when your pet is feeling fine, but do you know what to look for in times of illness? When it comes to dental health, knowledge is the best prevention. Periodically, you should examine your pet's teeth and look for any of the following symptoms:
- Persistent bad breath
- Sensitivity around the mouth or inability to close the mouth
- Pawing at the mouth
- Loss of appetite or reluctance to chew hard food or chew toys
- Difficulty eating and chewing food

What is a Board Certified Veterinary Specialist?
Board certified veterinary dental specialists receive extensive training in surgery, medicine, and dentistry. Specialty certification requires completion of 3 to 6 years of training in the area of specialization beyond the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. All candidates must pass advanced credential requirements approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). In addition to comprehensive training in the area of expertise, a veterinarian must submit credentials of expertise to a review board in the specialty college. Following acceptance of the credentials, an extensive written and practical examination must be successfully completed before being acknowledged as a specialist.
